When You Need a Dedicated Circuit

A dedicated circuit serves only one appliance or load — no sharing with other devices. NEC code requires dedicated circuits for many high-draw appliances, and they're strongly recommended for anything that draws significant power.

Home Office & Networking

Dedicated circuits for computers, NAS servers, networking equipment, and UPS systems — critical for work-from-home reliability.

Kitchen Appliances

Refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, and ranges — major kitchen appliances require or strongly benefit from dedicated circuits.

Workshop & Garage Tools

Table saws, air compressors, welders, and other shop equipment often draw 15–30 amps and need their own circuits.

EV Charging & High-Draw Systems

EV chargers, hot tubs, saunas, and AC systems all require dedicated circuits — often at 240V with 30–50 amp breakers.

Dedicated Circuit Installation — Step by Step

From your call to a working, permitted circuit — here's what to expect.

1

Load Assessment

We review the electrical requirements of your appliance or equipment and determine the right circuit size (amps, voltage, wire gauge).

2

Panel Space Check

We verify your panel has available slots for the new breaker. If the panel is full, we discuss options including sub-panels or panel upgrades.

3

Permit Application

Most new circuit installations require permits in Washington. We pull the required permit before work begins.

4

Circuit Installation

Wire is run from panel to destination using proper gauge and routing. Outlets, receptacles, or connection points installed to match your needs.

5

Breaker Installation

New breaker installed, circuit labeled in the panel, and all connections verified and torqued to specification.

6

Test & Inspection

Circuit tested for proper voltage and ground. Inspection coordinated if required. Everything verified working before we leave.

Dedicated Circuit FAQ

NEC code requires dedicated circuits for major kitchen appliances (refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave), HVAC equipment, and any appliance drawing more than 50% of a circuit's capacity continuously. Lower-draw devices can share circuits, but dedicated circuits are always the safer and more reliable choice for important equipment.
A full panel doesn't always mean you're out of options. Some panels can accommodate tandem (double-pole) breakers if the panel is rated for them. Otherwise, a sub-panel or full panel upgrade may be the right solution. We'll assess your panel and walk you through the options.
120V circuits power standard household outlets and lower-draw appliances. 240V circuits use both legs of your electrical service and deliver twice the voltage — required for high-draw equipment like dryers, EV chargers, hot tubs, AC systems, and workshop equipment.
Most new dedicated circuit installations require permits in Washington State jurisdictions. We handle the permit application and coordinate the inspection — you don't need to deal with the city or county directly.
